Why did you choose this project?e
I enjoy making art someone is able to use.
If you could do it again, would you do anything differently?
Absolutely, I would mainly decide how I want the next design to be different.

Pumpkin on Display
Nadir's pumpkin has been installed out front for the fall season. I asked him to reflect on the project and write why he chose to display it out front and how he feels about it now that he can see it complete and on display. He wrote the following:
The reason why I want to put it out in front of the school is because I thought it would be nice for the school to look at and we had planned on that for months. Now people can look at it when they come and leave the school. I feel really good about the pumpkin being out front for everyone to see.

Nadir's Halloween Candy Box
Project Summary:
List the steps needed to complete this project:
1. We read the instructions to tell us what the sizes were.
2. Next we cut the pieces of wood in the shapes of the instructions
3. We painted the wood in red, white, black, and blue colors.
4. We attached the wood by gluing and using screws.
What was the most challenging part?
I would say the most challeging thing about this was trying to get the screws in the project was very challeging because we had to use different screws to hold the project together. Like for example, I noticed that if we tried to put a screw in the project some of the wood might break a little bit or there would be a screw that would be blocking the screw that we were trying to put in there. But eventually we got all the screws where they needed to be.
Why did you choose this project?
I chose this project because of the fact that I thought it would be a fun project to do and as it turns out it looks very good.
If you could do it again, would you do anything differently?
No. If there were more things to do on this project I would do more.

Some Work from the Freshman Rotation Group
The current rotation is almost ready to move on to their next career center, but they have been working hard and enjoying their time in the wood shop. We've made birdhouses and Baltimore sport plaques, in addition to helping with other student projects, learning a little about job interviews, and identifying different types of job qualities and requirements based on the particular working environment.

Nadir's Travel Chess Board
Nadir just completed his second project. Below is his summary.
List the steps needed to complete the project.
1. First thing we did was cut a rectangular piece of wood.
2. Next was to cut the shape of the handle.
3. Then we had the lay out the lines for the squares with the ruler.
4. Then we used blue tape to put on those lines that way we could paint the squares without messing up.
5. Last we had sealed the wood to protect it.
What was the most challenging part?
There weren't that many challenging things about the chess board but the only challenging thing was making sure the tape was straight and not messing up the wet paint.
Why did you choose this project or why was it assigned to you?
I thought it would be something new to do and fun as well. But also thought that it would be easy.
If you could do it again would you do anything differently?
Not a chance.

Other Projects Currently in the Works
Alex is creating a decorative snowman out of a 4 x 4 post and Shawn is working on a small, curved, accent bench. They both are working very hard!
The freshman rotation group has just finished learning how each tool works and proper safety procedures in the shop. They are excited to begin building birdhouses next week.

Nadir's Pumpkin
For his first project in wood shop, Nadir chose to create a fall, decorative yard sign. He had to read and follow the project plans provided to him step by step in order to achieve the final outcome. I think he did a great job!
"What I liked most about the project was painting it," said Nadir. I also asked what he thought the most challenging part was. He responded by saying that he didn't think anything was too difficult and that the directions were easy to follow. Nadir hopes to use the pumpkin as decoration here at Harbour as it gets closer to fall.
